We catch up with Mandy Moore to discover she's changed record labels, and has a totally gay friendly movie out on DVD, here's our review and an update on Mandy's recording career...

Mary (Jena Malone) is a good Christian girl who goes to a good Christian high school in Baltimore where she has good Christian friends, mainly Hilary Faye ( Mandy Moore), and a perfect Christian boyfriend, Dean (Chad Faust). Her life seems perfect, until the day that she finds out that Dean may be gay. After "seeing" a vision of Jesus in her pool, she does everything in her power to help him turn straight, including offering up her virginity. But none of it helps because Dean's caught and sent to a "degayification" center and Mary ends up pregnant. It's during her time of need that she becomes real friends with the school's set of "misfits," including Cassandra (Eva Amurri), the school's only Jewish girl; Roland (Macaulay Culkin), Hilary Faye's wheelchair bound brother, and Patrick (Patrick Fugit), the skateboarder son of the school's principal, Pastor Skip ( Martin Donovan); whilst Hilary Faye turns her into a social outcast. Don't miss Mary Louise-Parker (Angels in America) as Mary's mum!

Hot Quotes:

Hilary Faye: "I know what you're looking at, and Jesus does too"

Roland: "I still don't think he's supposed to be white"  Hilary Faye: "Of course he's white!"

Hilary Faye: "I crashed my van into Jesus!"

This movie shows what happens when people are so into being Christian, they forget how to be a good person in the process. How they think they are teaching love, when in fact, they are practicing intolerance and forcing everyone to live by a specific set of guidelines. Mandy Moore popped over to the UK last weekend (23rd October 2004) for the premier of "Saved", check out your local listings. You can also be "Saved" on DVD and also currently playing on Virgin Atlantic flights to the US.

"Saved!" is a movie that has a lot of heart and hopefully will find a home and a following on DVD. This is a smartly written and well acted movie (especially Mandy Moore and Macaulay Culkin), and one that is worth seeing.

Mandy's latest album (released last year) "Coverage" continues her on her path of change from pop starlet to mature singer. The process of change started on her previous album, moves on a notch on this pleasing collection of covers which are far mature and different to anything she has produced before.

The material is a range of well known songs and lesser known ones and covers a period from the seventies and eighties. Surprisingly the tracks work well with songs from the likes of Elton John (mad hatters and mona lisas)J oan Armatrading (drop the pilot) Blondie (one way or another) The Waterboys (whole of the moon) XTC (senses working overtime), to other artists such as, Carole King, Joe Jackson and Carly Simon. A surprising pick from someone so young, but the production values are not slick or overproduced, they have an intimate feel to them. Overall a very pleasing album and an exciting pointer to where Mandy is headed next. I definitely recommend this to be slipped into your i-Tunes collection!
