This is basically a set of helpful hints for anyone who fancies making some extra coin by doing a couple of porno shoots, it’s not about catalogue modelling, I know nothing about that apart from that you need to strike ridiculous poses and look interested by a pair of £19.99 jeans, and it’s not a guide to escorting either, that’s a whole different ball game.

Starting Out

Okay, so you’ve decided you want to give this a shot, the first thing to think about is if you REALLY can do this, now it’s not a question of looks, no matter who you are and what you look like there will be someone out there who is going to be more than happy to sign you up. What you really need to think about is 1) what friends/family/significant other are going to say. True, you’re hardly likely to wander into the front room and put on your latest DVD of hardcore boy on boy action in front of grandma, but if you’re not out yet then just make sure you’re extra stealthy with websites you might look at, phone calls you may receive and so on. Friends are much less hassle, although the more self righteous ones might give you a lecture and the more ‘comic’ ones are likely to take great delight in pointing out at every opportunity that they’ve seen you naked, just be aware that if it really matters to you what people think, this isn’t the career choice for you. Finally, your boyfriend, some boyfriends are all in favour of having a ‘porn star’ boyfriend, others aren’t. If your boy doesn’t want you to do it, and you do anyway, you should probably say goodbye to that relationship, after all, think how you’d feel if he was out getting it on with lads who maybe better looking than you.

Finally, if you’re under eighteen you’ll just have to wait because you can’t do it, sorry, I don’t make the laws.

Finding Work

Still want to go for it? Fair enough now all you need is someone who wants to pay you, you may need to grab their attention by doing an application form and attaching some pictures, bear in mind these pictures are what they are going to judge you on, so don’t just send in a blurred, dark shot off of your phone camera, get a mate with a decent camera to do some for you, if nothing else it’ll help you get used to posing around naked won’t it? Anyway, you should also bear in mind the two most common types of assignment are stills (pictures either in magazines or on websites) and films (live action stuff) and either solo or duo/group. Unsurprisingly solo stuff pays less than duos and stills pay less than live action. It may be worth starting with solo stuff and working up to duo’s to get some confidence and experience, or you could just leap in at the deep end, it’s up to you.

The best advice to finding decent people to work with is word of mouth, if you know anyone who’s done any work like this in the past, ask them, most of the time people will be only too keen to let you know if someone is worth working for or if they’re a bit dodgy. Most of the main agencies in the UK are around the big cities, especially in London, and they all have links for becoming a model on their sites, so they might be as good a place as any to start, especially if you have the twinky look. Some people will try and make contact o gaydar or similar sites, you should always be a little cautious in this case, if someone from gaydar messages you asking you to do a proper porn shoot they should be a commercial member. There’s nothing wrong with private people asking for a private picture show, just make sure that’s all they get. 

Pre Shoot Preparation

As the scouts say, be prepared. If possible try and get your travel expenses paid in advance not only will this save you time and make sure you’re not out of pocket it also helps to show that the people you’re working for are trustworthy. Also with regards to travel make sure you set off in plenty of time, road works, delayed trains and idiot slow drivers can add more time than you’d have thought onto a trip. Make sure also to wear something light and loose fitting for the journey, there’s nothing worse than turning up with marks all over you from tight clothing. Other things to try and sort out the night before is a shower, a bottle of water, a packed lunch, whatever sex toys you might need and a change of clothes and don’t forget a legitimate agency will want you to bring photographic proof of ID such as your driving licence or passport so find those out in good time so you‘re not stressing in the morning. And one final note, don’t have a wank the night before, you’ll need all the ammo you can get.

The Shoot

The main thing to remember is that this is a business deal rather than just an excuse for you to cop off with some cute guy, so try and handle yourself as professionally as you can, turn up a little early, be polite and friendly, common sense stuff really. If there is anything you don’t do, then make sure you point this out as soon as you can. It’s also worth remembering that the point of the exercise is you get good photos/videos of yourselves so keep an eye on where the camera is and try make sure it’s looking at something interesting, I was also once told to never keep your hands still for more than about ten seconds, so try and keep moving. Don’t stress about things, the director is more than capable of pointing you in the right places if you’re going wrong, so just try and enjoy yourself, it’ll look better on camera. Oh, and one final note, don’t get off with the director/cameraman or anyone else who you aren’t being paid to do, not very professional at all.

Cleaning Up

Well I suppose the first thing to do is have a shower to remove any sweat/cum/etc that you might have picked up along the way, this ISN’T an excuse to cop off with your co-star afterwards, although if you do then more power to you. The main thing you need to sort out before you leave is payment, be VERY careful of accepting cheques or the promise that they will do a BACS transfer, there is a large number of very disreputable people out there, I speak from bitter experience. Make sure you get paid in cash as far as possible and keep a copy of the model release form that you should have filled in, so that if any disputes arise you can prove that you’ve done the work.
