WHAT WADIA WANTS
Eastenders actress Nina Wadia has spoken of her hopes that her character will one day accept her gay son...
The former Goodness Gracious Me star is at the centre of one of the soap's biggest ever gay plots as interfering mum Zainab Masood discovers that her newlywed son - played by the rather dishy Marc Elliott - has actually been sleeping with family friend (and one-time Only Gay In Walford) Christian - something which would bring shame on their Muslim family.
However, the actress who plays the iconic Walford witch does not share her character's strong views. "I want to see Zainab accept her son as gay and accept Christian as his partner. I long for the scene where Christian calls Zainab 'mum'," she tells The Times.
"But, of course, they'll put us through hell before we get there," she adds.
Personally, we don't mind what it takes to get there - we'd just be made up to see a happy, healthy gay relationship on a UK soap, instead of the usual stereotype of a camper than Christmas singleton who's only purpose is to provide comedy value. Are you listening Corrie bosses? Antony Cotton?
